Baby Shoe Rant

I think stores discriminate against baby boys...seriously I do. Ever since I found out that Alex was going to be a boy I have noticed that stores, mainly ALL of them, cater more to little girls than little boys. I can go into almost any baby store and there will be racks, and racks, and racks of cute, adorable little girl outfits and accesories and I have to go to the back of the store and search high and low for any boy clothes. I never noticed this until I had a little boy.

So anyway, I went to Target on Saturday night. I wanted to find a pair of shoes (just one pair of black shoes) for Alex for his Christmas outfit and I didn't want to spend $40 on a pair of shoes he would wear once or twice. You are probably thinking, that isn't such a demanding request right? Well, aparently it is. Target has no lie, at least THREE racks of little girl shoes. Cute little sandals, mary janes, loafers in pink, black, purple, etc. They had ONE ROW of little boy shoes and there was only ONE pair left out of all of those. I couldn't believe it. Of course, the one pair left was not the style I wanted NOR the size I needed. I was so frustrated. There was a mom next to me with a little boy and I turned to her and I said "It seems that Target caters to little girls more than little boys" She looked at me with this exasperated Mom look and said "It seems that a lot of stores cater more to little girls than little boys".

Anyone think I have a case for a discrimination lawsuit??? :) All I want is a pair of black loafter type shoes.

You are so funny Brynn! Try Payless. I was in there and they had sales on shoes...mainly ones for the Spring/Summer. I got Abigail two pairs of shoes for $11.48. Yes there was more shoes for girls. But that is the way it is for men and women. Men want one pair for everything and women have to mix and match. They did have boy shoes but I don't think I remember seeing black. Try anyway...if I come across something before this weekend I will let you know since I will be in WC with the family.

I'd like to add a reverse discrimination lawsuit! When we were trying to find a nursery theme for Ellie, EVERYTHING was designed for little boys. Sailboats. . .trains. . . animals. . .sports, you name it! What is there for little girls? Pink. Um, MAYBE something with some butterflies, but that is IT! So, Ellie's nursery is gender-neutral (animals). (But, I can serve as a witness that clothes/shoes are more focused on girls). Good luck with the shoes!

Just think of all the temptations you are being spared! If you had a little girl, no doubt you would want to buy at least 3 pairs of the cute shoes they have at Target :)

Every time I see a cute little girl wearing xyz cute item (patterned tights, hair clips, etc) I say to Dave "think of how much we'll save on our xyz budget by having a boy!"
