Saw the Heartbeat!!!

Today had to be hands down one of the coolest days of my life. We had our first ultrasound appointment this morning to see how far a long in my pregnancy I am and to make sure the baby was progressing as it should.

Well, for those of you who know me know that I am a worrier and a nervous wreck when it comes to things like this. Last night I did not sleep well, had weird dreams about ultrasounds and flooding rooms..weird. But this morning went GREAT!!!

We got to the doctors and after about 30 minutes they took us back to start the process. Well, since I am so early on in my pregnancy, they had to do a vaginal ultrasound, the one on the tummy wouldn't show our little one. Sure enough pretty soon after the ultrasound started we saw the baby! It was the coolest thing EVER!!! We saw the yolk sac, (which is really important) this blob that is the baby and the heartbeat!!! The heartbeat was this flashing light on the screen. It was very strong..or at least it was very consistent....and we were able to see it.

I started crying of course because I was just so happy to see the baby on the screen and see that everything is progressing as it should be. The sonographer dated my pregnancy as 6weeks 1 day (although I think I am further into my 6th week) and my estimated due date is March 8, 2008...which the sonographer thought was really cool :)))) Another March baby!!!! And it will be a Pisces. I wonder if it will be musically inclined. It is also weird to think that I will be a Mommy by my 28th birthday....what a shock!

I will post some pictures from the ultrasound when I get a chance to get them on disc. I tried scanning them, but the quality was not good. I think I can see where the head is developing and I can see where the baby is attaching to my uterine wall. Right now the baby is about 4 cm in length..or the size if a lentil bean (according to our pregnancy books).

I feel so much better now that I actually saw the heartbeat and know that everything is OK in there. Although it is kind of freaky to think I have two heartbeats in me now and that I am a host for another living creature. SOO COOL!!!!
