BIG Week In Food

The past two weeks have been BIG weeks for food for little Alex. Since he was 6 months old, we have been giving him a sippy cup with diluted juice and mainly he took the cup and threw it on the floor or chewed on the drinking spout thingy...he hadn't really gotten the whole sucking and then juice comes out thing. Well, the other day he actually drank a couple of ounces!!!! Now he is back to more throwing and chewing, but I am hoping with our constant trying he will get it eventually.

Then the thing that I have been dreading in the whole process of introducing solids came...I finally introduced dairy. This has been a source of concern for me because both my brother and I had milk allergies as babies. As my parents told me, I had a really bad case of cholic as an infant and I was so paranoid that Alex would have the same problem. Even to this day I can't look at a glass of milk without feeling sick to my stomach (This does not bode well for when Alex starts drinking cows milk, but I will deal with that when I have to). So even though I am nursing, I don't have a lot of dairy in my diet. Thankfully, we started with yogurt and he LOVES it. Not any reaction!! I am so happy. I gave him half a container of yogurt last night and he couldn't get enough of it :)

Then we decided to move up the ladder to "finger foods". Henry and I made some pasta for dinner the other night and we decided to have Alex join in the fun of dinner with us. We cut the pasta into really small pieces and put them onto his highchair and let him go at it. He did really well. We have been giving him puffs for months now and he gets the whole pincer grasp. He has even decided that doing one puff at a time is just not enough and so he grabs a whole palmful and tries to shove them all into his mouth at once. The pasta went better than expected. There was no choking or gagging...lots of chewing though.

We are going to introduce turkey to Alex on his Thanksgiving...should be interesting!!!

I'm so glad he has no problem with dairy! I bet he will love cheese too:)
