That was the name of the first "baby class" Henry and I took on Monday....gosh, who knew you had to take classes about babies.... As one of my friends put it, "what did people do 100 years ago when these classes weren't available..I wonder how any of us survived". While I do agree with him, it was still a nice class to take, especially with Henry.
Basically the class covered all sorts of interesting stuff, from how to choose a pediatrician to the APGAR test, to baby bodily functions, to car seat safety, to breastfeeding vs. formula feeding, etc. It was a very wide topic of discussion, some of it interesting, some of it preachy. The pediatrician that was there to talk to us was definitely pro breastfeeding and wouldn't talk about formula feeding unless someone specifically asked about it, which I thought was kind of crappy since some women CAN'T breastfeed for various reasons..they shouldn't be made to feel bad about it.
It is amazing how much changes so quickly...they were talking and telling us that the new big thing is "tummy time" for the babies and how they recommend that as soon as we bring our little peanuts home from the hospital we should start doing "tummy time" about 5 to 6 times a day for 4 minutes each to help the baby get control of his/her head and to prevent a flat head...there are so many things that you have to keep track of, I wonder how I am going to do it all!
We are signed up for two more classes....one in January for prepping for childbirth and then one in Feb which is a breastfeeding class... We also have a tour of the hospital maternity floor in early January as well....I can't believe how busy the next couple of weeks are going to be for Henry and I!!!!!
