10 Months Old!!!!

I can't believe it...the year of Alex's birth has come and gone and my baby is now 10 months old. There have been SOOOOO many new things that Alex has done this past month that I am afraid that I have already forgotten some of the new things he has done already! Henry and I claim that Alex had a developmental explosion this past month. It is hard keeping up with everything.

Some highlights from the past month include:

- Becoming a rolling fiend. As I stated in a previous post, we put Alex on the floor on Christmas Eve and he took of rolling across the room and he hasn't stopped since. Mommy is worn out because now Alex is trying to get into everything that he isn't supposed to get into. How he knows the "bad" from the "good" and how he gravitates to the "bad" I will never know. He is ALMOST crawling. Even over the past several days he has been getting up on his knees more and more and actually staying there. I can tell he wants to crawl, but hasn't quite got the coordination down just yet.

- He has learned how to stick his tongue out at anyone and anything. At first Henry and I thought that this was cute and encouraged it, but now we are seeing the flaw in our ways. The boy will stick his tongue out whenever and where ever...even at some pretty inappropriate times..for example, at the grocery store, meeting new people etc. I am sure they don't appreciate having a tongue pointed in their direction now matter how cute the baby. My family however, thinks this is hilarious and encourages this bad habit.

- He has learned how to do "So Big" and he raises his arms above his head. What is even more amazing is that when he hears Henry or I say "So Big" he understands what we are saying and does the motion. I is very cool because he is understanding words now and knows what they mean. He also does this with clapping. Whenever we say "clap, clap, clap" he will clap his hands together and then smile this huge smile waiting for praise.

- He pulled himself up..once. I am beginning to think that this was an aberration of my over active imagination and he actually didn't pull himself up at all and I just made it up. He is able to stand holding onto something for short periods of time without our support, but can't (or won't) pull himself into a standing position. We are trying to work with him, but it is slow progress.

- He has started to do some signs. One is more like it. He learned how to sign "more". Now it isn't perfect, but it is close enough and now he sits in his highchair and demands "more cheerios", "more cheese", "more yogurt" (these are his favorite foods). He even did it when I was reading to him and he wanted me to read him another book. He signed "more".

- His first tooth broke through. That was a bad night, but it broke through and now he has one little tooth poking through his gums.

- He LOVES to sit and turn pages in books. This could entertain him FOREVER. He just sits and turns pages. Sometimes he will stop to "comment" on something on the page, but mostly he just turns pages in rapid succession. It is hard to read to him because before you can finish reading the page of the story he wants to move on.

- We believe he said his first word "hello". It defiantly sounded like "hello" but you can never tell. He even repeats it to us when we say it to him first. And he is started to really imitate sounds and gestures that Henry and I do now.

I believe that may be it...there may be more. I am adjusting to being home full time. It is actually very nice. The only bad part is that the weather is sooo cold I don't like to go outside so we are inside the house a lot, which drives me crazy. I have started the job search, but will be taking my time and will hopefully find something that I am really interested in pursuing and that will be good for me long term career wise. In the meantime, I am going to savor every moment with Alex and watch him grow into a beautiful toddler boy. I can't believe in just two short months he will be one year old not an infant anymore...how time flies. I have loved every moment (well, almost. The 2 AM crying jags haven't been the most pleasant...)

Here is a video of Alex doing some of his nifty new tricks!
