What a Weekend!

What a fabulous weekend this past weekend was! Henry, little Alex and I travelled to Carlisle, PA for a family reunion on Saturday and then the three of us, Uncle Graigy, Aunt Kim, and Nana Carlson all went peach and plum picking at a local orchard followed by a fabulous family picnic on Sunday evening. THIS was the reason Henry and I wanted to move home so badly...

Saturday was our family reunion. Who knew our family was so large?? Not I! There had to be upwards of 30 (I know this is small compared to some family reunions) people at this party...there were people there that I had never even met before. A good time was had by all, although the weather was so increadibly humid out and thunderstorms came and went throughout the day. As expected, Alex was the hit of the party. He did so well. He was passed from person to person and there were so many grandmothers there that just wanted to hold him and he pretty much tolerated it the whole time. Towards the end he was pretty cranky, but who could blame the little guy? He didn't have a long nap, it was hot, and he was tired. I cry for less....

On Sunday, our immediate family went to Highland Orchards to pick peaches and plums. It was an absolutley gorgeous day outside and we all had a great time. Where else can you eat fruit right off the tree (techincally that was illegal) that is ripe and sweet and juicy??? You could tell from all the pits on the ground, that we weren't the only ones indulging ourselves straight off the tree... We now have A LOT of peaches. Can we say peach ice cream, peach chutney, peach pie, peach cobbler....

Alex had a great time. He loved looking at the trees and grabbing for the branches. He even managed to hold onto a small plum all by himself before gravity took over and the plum hit the ground. Alex loves being outside, so he was constantly enthralled by all the people and sounds and colors. He kept grabbing the tree branches and Mommy had to tell him that "good boys don't hurt the trees by pulling their leaves off" Somehow, I don't think 5 month olds grasp the concept of "dont do that".... At last count I think we picked about 35 lbs of peaches and about 20 lbs of plums...

Can you believe this was 1/4 what we ended up bringing home?
Alex slept through the peach picking
Isn't he a peach?
Done peach picking and onto plums

Alex was excited to get to the plum picking

because he and Mommy got to pick plums together
Look at what Alex picked!

After we were done picking the fruit we all congregated back at my parent's house for a little summer evening get together. The weather was fabulous, the food was fabulous, and the company was fabulous. We grilled steaks out and had fresh sweet corn and of course peaches and plums :+) Alex is very vocal now and entertained his masses by screaming up a storm and putting his foot into his mouth (literally, not figuratively). The best part of course, was that we were able to go home to our own house after the party was over!

Alex's new favorite activity...getting his foot into his mouth
Why invest in lots of toys when an empty soda can works just as well?

Now it is back to another work week...

Yum! Looks great, Brynn! Figures you'd have to move OUT of the peach state to find such a lovely place to pick peaches. ;) I'm so glad you get to have such nice times with your family.

Hope work is treating you ok!

I just LOVE his little smile!!! And, the peach/plum picking looks like so much fun. I guess it is safe to say that there will be quite a few peach pies coming out of the Lange household...
