We Survived the First Week

Well, Alex and I have both been home from the hospital for a little over a week and we are both doing well..... My c-section incision has been noticeably less and less painful as the week went on and I haven't had to use as many of the pain medication as I thought I would. Alex is doing well too...eating, sleeping, pooping...all the things that a newborn should do he is doing.

We haven't done much...just stayed around the house mostly...I am not comfortable with the whole breastfeeding thing and since I have to feed him pretty much every two hours...I haven't been brave enough to face the world yet.... Hopefully with time I will get more comfortable or come up with a routine that works for Alex and I as far as feedings go and we can get out more. Also, since he is so young and it is the tail end of the flu season, neither Henry nor I have wanted to take him out where there would be large crowds of people.

I know I have nothing to compare Alex too, but I think he is a pretty good baby. He seems to have Henry's mellow personality. He sleeps pretty well at night...he can go a good 3 to 4 hours before waking up needing a diaper change or being fed. We try to wake him up every 2 or 2 1/2 hours during the day for feedings and then let him wake us up at night. So far it seems to be going well. We went to the pediatrician last Monday for a weight check and in just the three days that Alex had been home from the hospital, he had gained 6ozs. The doctor was amazed as typically breastfed babies only gain half and ounce a day and Alex had gained 2 oz per day. The appointment went well..the doctor said Alex looks great and is very healthy...we have our 2 week check up this coming Tuesday so we will be able to see what his weight is again.

Henry has been home with me for the last two weeks...and he goes back to work this Wednesday...I am not sure what I am going to do without his help! I am a bit nervous to actually be alone with Alex. I just hope that we are able to get into a routine pretty quickly.....

Wish me luck!

I realize I am a bit late with this, as Alex is, what? 5 months old now, but I was googling around for Paoli maternity experiences and found yours.

Based on your expectations from the tour you took, how was your experience at Paoli?

I am 16 weeks along, and was planning to go to Bryn Mawr to deliver, but after my husband was just there last week (in a freak new onset diabetic episode, in which they gave him an antibiotic in a SUGAR solution, and then the house doctor messed up his prescriptions on his discharge), I decided that I may not want to go there to have my baby.

I would love to hear your thoughts on Paoli and who your doctor is/was.

Thank you!
Stacy
